Mark Pember aka Meat katie has long been a fixture on the breakbeat scene as both a DJ and producer, in the last few years his unique brand of tech-funk that takes influence from tech & tribal house, techno & electro, but with his trademark breakbeat feel, has really kicked off, with both house + breaks djs sighting him as one of the most consistent players out there. His genre defying sound is also reflected in his DJ sets, which have seen him supporting the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx, Death in Vegas, Ken Ishii & the Dubpistols, to name but a few. He has toured Australia with The Boutique, Two Tribes & Gatecrasher, done a number of US/Canadian tours and played everywhere from Argentina to Hungary to Scotland to China. On the recording front Mark is signed to Kingsize Records with whom he has had 2 very successful artist albums.
On top of this he has embarked on a collaborative 12" series for the Kingsize label with guest so far including Elite Force (no.1), Lee Coombs (no.2) and Christian J (no.3). The releases so far have been getting Radio 1 airplay from Pete tong, Fergie, Jules etc and there are plans for other collaborations soon! Mark continues with collaborative releases for a number of other quality labels including TCR ("JuJu" with Elite Force) & Bedrock ("I Feel it" with Dark Globe) If that was not enough, the self confessed workaholic ran his own label Whole 9 Yards for 5 years which boasted an impressive roster of such talent as Dylan Rhymes, Sons of Slough, Elite Force, Rhythm Division, Dark Globe and has now launched a new imprint Lot 49 which is already grabbing attention.
Mark's long history in music includes time spent recording for Wall of Sound and R+S Records and during his time he has worked with / remixed for Arthur Baker, U.N.K.L.E, Deep Dish, Boy George, Stephane K & Pepe Deluxe to name but a few.
His previous album releases have seen him receive press features and interviews from just about every dance music magazine and a few others to boot. His blurring of the lines between house music, breaks and techno has made him a pioneer both as DJ and producer and gained him a respect from a wide ranging music fanbase.
2004 has seen the release of his Bedrock Breaks compilation and is currently working on a joint album with Elite Force as well as laying the groundwork for his 3rd artist album.
Meat Katie is a keen user of Ableton Live which he found invaluable during his recent remix for Deep Dish.
